A math enrichment program that has kids thinking
mathematically and having fun! There are five
different MathAntics programs designed to engage
kids to play, practice, and work with mathematics.
A “CHECKERED“ PAST
Kids participating in this program will embark on a journey of
learning checkers, sportsmanship, and strategical thinking.
They will learn the specific rules to the game and play the
traditional game of checkers in Week One. Beginning with
Week Two, a different version of Checkers will be taught and
played each week. After each session, each child will take
home the directions for the version played.
A BLAST FROM THE PAST
Participants will play games that have been around for
hundreds or thousands of years and learn about the origins of
each game as well as different versions that are played
around the world. Each game is a game of strategy. At the
end of each session, participants will receive a score card
with a description of the history of the game and a paper
version to color, cut-out, and play at home.
A GAME MEDLEY
This program was specifically designed to incorporate
problem-solving, critical thinking, sportsmanship, and the
practice of mathematics. Each week participants will play a
game that employs strategy and reinforces attributes,
geometry, or number operations. Participants take home a
scorecard that explains the skills practiced.
PRIMARY PLAY
Primary Play has young children, Kindergarten through the
second grade, actively moving, thinking, and playing with
mathematics. Primary Play is brain friendly in that it activates
all parts of the brain in the learning process. Participants are
measuring, counting, adding, subtracting, and working with
place value, patterns, and attributes while they are on the
move and having fun. At the end of each session, participants
will take home a scorecard that describes the events of the
afternoon.
A PLETHORA OF POLYGONS, POLYHEDRONS,
& THE PLATONIC SOLIDS
Kids explore polygons, then build polyhedrons, and discover
why there are only five Platonic solids. Participants will take
home a paper polyhedron to cut out and assemble as well as
an explanation of the week's activities.
